27 March 2009– The Maastricht Treaty (formally, the Treaty on European Union, TEU) was signed on 7 February 1992 in Maastricht, the Netherlands, between members of the European Community, entered into force Delors Commission, the administration of Jacques Delors, the 8th President of the European Commission, over the Commission of the European Communities. The Maatricht Treaty, created the European Union and euro, the foundation of the EU (European Union).


The Lisbon Treaty, a reform treaty was designed to  change workings of the European Union (EU) by amending the Treaty on European Union (TEU, Maastricht) and the Treaty establishing the European Community (TEC, Rome), the latter being renamed Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) in the process.
